Michael Joseph Galba (aka: Mike, Misko, Miko), came to America to establish a home before arranging for the family to come across.  He arrived 10 Sep 1910 into Ellis Island aboard the RMS Ultonia.  He departed from the port at Fuime on 27 Aug 1910.

He was listed as Misko Galba on the ship's manifest.  It shows him to be from Macute but lists the country and nationality as Hungary and the race as Croatian.  His destination is to his Uncle Jozsef Galba, First Ave. 267 Milwaukee, WI.  He had a total of $30 in his possession.

He began working for the meat packing industry and after his wife and children arrived in 1913, they moved from Milwaukee to the Saint Paul area.  The date of the move is uncertain but their son John was born there in 1918.

His manifest and ship info can be found on the Ellis Island website.  His uncle Josef Galba arrived in the US on 7 April 1893 aboard the SS Waesland.  The address on First Ave in Milwaukee no longer exists.  One of Josef's daughter is still living in Wisconsin but unable to provide any information.  His grandaughter reports that while growing up, she was told that no other Galba relatives were in the US even though his nephew had a large family in St. Paul and possibly other family members in the US and still in Croatia.

Another Galba researcher found a baptismal record from the Church in Vocin (same area as Mike Galba lived).  This shows the baptism of Marija Galba on 28 Jan 1881 (born 26 Jan 1881) to parents Michael Galba and Rosalija Csos.  Marija may likely be Mike Galba's sister so it's possible that these are his parents.  Mike Galba's death certificate shows his father's name as Martin Galba and his mother as Anna?  This was reported by his son Mike Jr.   I have seen so many cases where the people providing information on death certificates will list their own wife's name or their own parent's names as those of the deceased - perhaps in the confusion of the moment.

Anna Galba's (Anna Sellers mother) death certificate shows her father as George Smith (John Doe?) and Anna Koss.  Could this 'Koss' be Csos - (Rosalija Csos) and since this information was likely provided by Mike Sr. perhaps he was confusing his own mother with his wife's?   The SS Vaderland manifest shows Anna's father to be Petar Koslic (Kostic).  According to our family information, Anna's maiden name was Kovach or similar spelling.
